Tradisyon

Comme son nom l’évoque, Tradisyon se veut un opus campé dans les racines haïtiennes du montréalais Wesley Louissaint, ainsi qu’un retour aux sources et aux traditions musicales de son île natale. En puisant dans ces traditions, l’Afrique émerge inévitablement au travers de ces 19 chansons empreintes de sons vaudous des Lakous, de rythmes banda, petro, ganga, nago, congo et yanvalou, de chant créole, yoruba et tradisyon, le tout accompagné d’instruments anciens tels que le bambou, le manouba, le wimblé, la kata, le segon, la boula, la manman et la flûte peule, instrument fétiche de l’artiste.

Jouissant d’une réputation internationale depuis plusieurs années, Wesli s’avère un artiste de scène électrisant. En plus de s’adonner au chant, l’artiste s’accompagne de plusieurs instruments, réalise des arrangements complexes, mixe ses compositions et livre toujours un message engagé. D’autre part, en compagnie du Wesli Band, sa costaude bande de musiciens qui magnifie à coup sûr ses prestations, Wesli collabore fréquemment avec d’autres artistes de renom, comme sur la chanson Peze Café, une chanson Lakou Kongo d’Haïti avec l’invité spécial Kizaba, ou sur le premier extrait paru l’été dernier, composé et interprété avec Paul Cargnello, Le Soleil descend.

La voix de Wesli prête une parfaite authenticité aux trois pièces hommages composées pour Tradisyon; avec la chanson Samba au rythme pétro, il rend hommage à Azor Rasin Mapou, tandis que la pièce rara Wawa sé rèl O célèbre les ténors de la musique racine Wawa Rasin Kanga. Finalement, Konté m Rakonté m chante les louanges d’Éric Charles, un ténor de la série Ayiti Troubadour.

Tradisyon

As its name suggests, Tradisyon is an opus set in the Haitian roots of Montrealer Wesley Louissaint, as well as a return to the sources and musical traditions of his native island. Drawing from these traditions, Africa inevitably emerges through these 19 songs marked by the voodoo sounds of the Lakous, banda, petro, ganga, nago, congo and yanvalou rhythms, Creole, Yoruba and tradisyon singing, all accompanied by ancient instruments such as the bamboo, manouba, wimblé, kata, segon, boula, manman and the peule flute, the artist’s favourite instrument.

With an international reputation for several years, Wesli is an electrifying performer. In addition to singing, the artist accompanies himself with several instruments, creates complex arrangements, mixes his compositions and always delivers a committed message. On the other hand, in the company of the Wesli Band, his strong band of musicians that certainly magnifies his performances, Wesli frequently collaborates with other renowned artists, as on the song Peze Café, a Lakou Kongo song from Haiti with special guest Kizaba, or on the first single released last summer, composed and performed with Paul Cargnello, Le Soleil descend.

Wesli’s voice lends a perfect authenticity to the three tribute pieces composed for Tradisyon; with the song Samba au rythme pétro, he pays homage to Azor Rasin Mapou, while the rara piece Wawa sé rèl O celebrates the tenors of the root music Wawa Rasin Kanga. Finally, Konté m Rakonté m sings the praises of Eric Charles, a tenor of the Ayiti Troubadour series.
